Biography
Dr. Zhao got his PhD degree in Computer Science in 2005. Then he worked as postdoctoral fellow in Genome Institute of Singapore and Baylor College Medicine. He focused on the genome rearrangements in evolution and in cancer using comparative genomics approaches. His work on recovering genome rearrangements events in mammalian evolution and in revealing the driving force of cancer genome rearrangements were published in Genome Research in 2009 and 2013. Currently he works in the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, the MD Anderson Cancer Center(MDACC). He is the key person for implementing the computational pipeline for the Institute of Personalized Cancer Therapy at MDACC. This pipeline is applied to accurately detect the mutations in cancer patients.
Research Interest
Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Dr. Zhao is also interested in studying oncogenesis and cancer progression by designing and applying bioinformatics algorithms to "omics" high throughput sequencing data.
