Biography

Dr. Amjad Beg is a distinguished researcher with a robust background in various biological disciplines, including medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, and computational biology. He has an extensive academic history, beginning with his master's degree in biotechnology, where he characterized the N-Acetyl glucosamine-6-phosphate deacetylase protein of C. albicans under the guidance of Prof. Asis Datta. His research during his M.Phil. with Prof. Sonu C. Thakur involved gene cloning and protein purification of the putative thioredoxin protein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Dr. Beg's Ph.D. work with Prof. Fareeda Athar focused on the effects of plant-based compounds on the susceptibility and survival of M. tuberculosis, utilizing a comprehensive array of techniques such as gene cloning, protein purifications, biophysical techniques, and computational studies. His postdoctoral fellowship at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, under the mentorship of Dr. Zhiyuan Shen, has deepened his expertise in ribosome biogenesis and DNA damage repair. Dr. Beg's diverse training and research experiences have equipped him with a broad skill set and a strong foundation for his long-term goal of becoming an independent investigator, dedicated to exploring developmental pathways and gene expression alterations in human diseases.
