Biography

Mike Hooper, Ph.D., began his involvement with the criminal justice system as a member of the Los Angeles Police Department. Following a 23-year career with LAPD, he served as a faculty member within the Criminal Justice Program at Penn State University. After a 5-year stint at PSU, he returned to California to assume a leadership position with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. He served 13 years with POST. He joined the Sonoma State University faculty as a lecturer concurrent with his appointment at POST. He is committed to fostering enhancement of the communications capabilities of those aspiring to careers within the criminal justice system. Throughout his professional pursuits, he gained appreciation for the importance of accurate and clear communication. He strives to instill in students methodologies for identifying the pressing issues within the criminal justice system and the means for formulating interventions for improving conditions.

Research Interest

Police administration, community policing, policy development, and leadership in public agencies.
